Island, 2015

The project arises from the experience of traveling alone and its beginning is a photographic documentation of the landscape of the volcanic island of Lanzarote. Apart from 150 collages / drawings (dimensions from 16 x 22 cm to 25 x 17 cm), an important element which is organizing the space are objects breaking through the wall and falling inside the room - destroying the space. Their shapes refer to both volcanic boulders and the forms shown in the drawings. Thus, sculpture is not a simple imitation of nature, but only suggests, by locating it in space, the inevitably impending catastrophe, which may refer to both the actions of nature towards man and man towards nature. The location and undefined form of objects are intended to arouse anxiety, which often manifests itself while staying in an unknown, deserted space. The project deals with the universal problem of the coexistence of a man who is part of nature with nature that has become a foreign space for him. It is an attempt to see the landscape in a different way, and by taking up the subject, it dialogue with the landscape theme that has been present for centuries in the history of art. The project is also related to the issue of the contemporary way of traveling, the popular turism, often devoid of any reflection, and based on thoughtless exploitation of goods. The collection of drawings / collages intentionally refers to the photographic collection of landscapes and impressions by a contemporary traveler, which in their mass cease to be an individual observation.
The project consists of:

Projekt wyrasta z doświadczenia samotnego podróżowania a jego początek stanowi fotograficzna dokumentacja pejzażu wulkanicznej wyspy Lanzarote. Oprócz 150 kolaży/rysunków (wymiary od 16x22 cm, do 25x17 cm), ważnym elementem organizującym przestrzeń są obiekty przebijające się przez ścianę i wpadające do środka sali – destruujące przestrzeń. Ich kształty nawiązują zarówno do głazów wulkanicznych jak i form znajdujących się w rysunkach. Tym samym rzeźba nie stanowi prostej imitacji natury, a jedynie sugeruje, poprzez usytuowanie w przestrzeni, zbliżającą się nieuchronnie katastrofę, która może dotyczyć zarówno działania natury wobec człowieka, jak i człowieka wobec natury. Usytuowanie i niedookreślona forma obiektów, mają na celu wzbudzanie niepokoju, który często ujawnia się podczas przebywania w nieznanej, bezludnej przestrzeni. Projekt dotyczy uniwersalnego problemu współistnienia człowieka, który jest częścią natury, z naturą, która stała się dla niego obcą przestrzenią. Jest próbą innego zobaczenia krajobrazu, a poprzez podjęcie tematu, dialoguje z obecnym od wieków w historii sztuki, wątkiem pejzażowym. Projekt wiąże się również z kwestią współczesnego sposobu podróżowania, popularnego turismu, często pozbawionego jakiejkolwiek refleksji, a opartego na bezmyślnym eksploatowaniu dóbr. Zbiór rysunków/kolaży celowo nawiązuje do fotograficznego kolekcjonowania, przez współczesnego podróżnika, pejzaży i wrażeń, które w swojej masie przestają być jednostkową obserwacją.
